On August 19, 2007 Hurricane Dean, then a strong Category Four storm, passed just south of the Island of Jamaica leaving pockets of destruction in its wake. While Jamaica did not experience the wide spread damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, many areas in the southeastern portion of the island experienced localized destruction of the same extent.

From the Desk of Ministries In Action President Walford Thompson - August 21, 2007:
Dear Friend,
In the past two months, God has used Mark Labberton’s book - The Dangerous Act of Worship, to renew my commitment to be faithful in partnering with God in what He is doing in His world, and through His church. Here is a quote from the book:

“Hurricane Dean has just bulldozed the place and left. The devastation is horrible …” - Ruth Howard, Kingston, Jamaica

Dear friend,
Greetings on a hot summer day.
CRUSADES
We are truly grateful to the Lord for his continued faithfulness. We have seen Him work beyond our expectations in the national crusades. In all 8 Zones across the island several thousands gathered each night to hear the gospel. Approximately 2000 gave their lives to Jesus.

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with a short term mission team from Decatur Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Alabama to work toward the completion of the small hospital Ministries In Action is building in the Dominican Republic. I was prepared to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty. I was prepared for the immersion into a country with countless people who live off of just a fraction of what is considered normal in the US. I was prepared to visit the bateys, impoverished “company towns” of immigrant Haitians in the Dominican Republic. I was not prepared for the change that would take place in my heart.
