It’s often noted that the work of missions involves three important types of people: those who pray, those who give, and those who GO! Thank you for your participation in the work of taking the gospel to the nations. We have seen our gracious God answering prayer as we travel throughout Ontario, Canada this month. (Caleb, Zach and Gabrielle have seen their first real snow fall and their first live hockey game!)
A few minutes before 7 PM last Thursday evening (11/15/2007) the tractor trailer finally pulled up and hitched to the forty-foot shipping container in the parking lot of Pinelands Presbyterian Church. The container was loaded with mattresses, clothing, food, medicine and other supplies and was en route to the Dominican Republic. Watching the truck pull away, the Ministries In Action staff breathed a sigh of relief as this marked the completion of two weeks of dedicated relief work.
Dear prayer partners,
We praise the Lord for the many good things He has done for us this month! Like the psalmist in Psalm 147:7 & 8, we praise Him for the long-awaited rain, for now we can see the green grass coming back. We also have less dust and it sure is a lot cooler. We also praise Him for the group from Word of Life that came to share the Lord Jesus with our students and our community. It was a challenge for Onesimo and me to have such a big family to provide for, but everyone pitched in and things went well. Two from that group said they would like to bring their church members here to help us during vacation time.

Joyfully Serving
A recent trip to Mexico saw another training center opened. A dozen young men and women are excited about God’s grace and how to appropriate it in their culture and ministry.
Tropical Storm Noel caused major flooding in the Dominican Republic and Haiti last week taking over 100 lives and leaving thousands homeless. Ministries In Action will be loading a container with relief supplies, clothing, bedding and food to be shipped to our mission team in the Dominican Republic. Doctor Silvia Martinez and her team in the Dominican Republic will oversee the distribution of the relief supplies to some of the very needy areas around Santo Domingo and to the bateyes, which are very poor working communities of immagrant Haitians.
The container will be loaded between 1 PM and 7 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Pinelands Prebyterian Church, which is located at 10201 Bahia Drive, Miami, FL 33189. We need some volunteers to help us sort and load. If you are in the Miami area and are free that day we sure could use the help. If you are not able to help out on that day there are other ways to get involved, such as donating canned foods, clothing or relief supplies. We are also raising funds to purchase some relief material locally in the Dominican Republic.
If you would like to participate in any of these ways please contact our ministry office at (305) 234-7855 or email noel-response@mia.org.
This morning, as Tropical Storm Noel passes through the Bahamas, Ministries In Action received the following report from Dr. Silvia Martinez in the Dominican Republic concerning Noel’s aftermath there. Dr. Silvia runs a medical clinic in Santo Domingo and also conducts feeding programs in some of the poorer areas of the country, including some bateyes, which are impoverished communities of Haitian immigrants. Here is her report: Read the rest of this entry »
